Sugar! Companies are very aware of the effects of sugar. They spike their products with it in order to take advantage of its addictive nature! Fucking corporations. Most food companies operate under a win/lose model. You buy the product. They win by getting your money and you lose by messing up your health.
First of all, your health should always come first. Why? Without it, you won’t live a great life. Think about all of these wealthy people who can buy anything yet don’t have enough energy/vitality to enjoy it.
One of the biggest principles of Spartan Ownership is taking optimal care of our bodies. It’s like the old saying: “Before you attempt to help anyone with their oxygen mask, make sure to fill up your own first.” If you don’t have your health taken care of, how will you help anyone else? You’ll be weak, tired and sick. And you won’t be able to think straight because a lot of your energy will be going into healing your body and keeping you alive.
One of the most common threats to our health is the overconsumption of SUGAR. Don’t buy into the hype that you can eat whatever you want now and then start to focus on your health when you’re older. Build the right habits now!
Here is a list of the ways that sugar impacts your body:
#1 It Damages Your Liver
Alcohol and prescription drugs aren’t the only things that damage your liver. You can add sugar to that list! All the fructose you eat gets transported to the only organ that deals with it: your liver. This overloads your liver, leading to damage.
#2 Sugar Increases Your Risk of Disease
Disease rates are higher than ever! Studies found that fructose is readily used by cancer cells to increase their proliferation – it “feeds” the cancer cells, promoting cell division and speeding their growth, which allows cancer to spread faster.
#3 Sugar Is Bad For Your Heart
Sugar puts you at risk of dying from heart disease even if you aren’t overweight. Earlier research has shown that drinking sugar-sweetened beverages can raise blood pressure. A high-sugar diet may also stimulate the liver to dump more harmful fats into the bloodstream. Both factors are known to boost heart disease risk.
#4 Sugar Makes Your Skin Wrinkly
Studies have now proven that sugar causes wrinkles. The more you indulge in sweets and overly processed foods containing sugar the quicker you’ll lose your healthy “glow.” A process called glycation, in which a sugar attaches to and damages proteins in your blood, makes you more vulnerable to skin damage and premature wrinkles.
#5 Sugar Robs You Of Your Energy
When you consume an abundance of sugar, you might feel an instant surge of energy, but the surge is fleeting and is usually followed by a crash. HealthGuidance.org explains that this is because blood sugar levels increase rapidly, but then the body automatically reacts to high levels of sugar by releasing insulin from the pancreas. This results in a sudden decrease in blood sugar, which can leave you feeling very lethargic and sleepy. (I used to experience this quite often)
#6 Sugar Can Make You Addicted Just Like Drugs
In the study carried out by Australia’s Queensland University (QUT), it compared the effects of sugar to those of cocaine and likened the symptoms of coming off it to going ‘cold turkey’.
Scientists have found: “Excess sugar consumption has been proven to contribute directly to weight gain. It has also been shown to repeatedly elevate dopamine levels which control the brain’s reward and pleasure centers in a way that is similar to many drugs of abuse including tobacco, cocaine, and morphine. “After long-term consumption, this leads to the opposite, a reduction in dopamine levels. This leads to higher consumption of sugar to get the same level of reward.
#7 Sugar Can Weaken Your Eyesight
Eating lots of sugary, starchy foods may make eyes more vulnerable to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), America’s top cause of vision loss.
#8 Sugar Weakens Your Immune System
The more sugar in your system, the less Vitamin C can get into your white blood cells. Sugar DOES NOT help your immune system fight infection at all, resulting in a weakened defense from infections.
#9 Sugar Ages You Quicker
The more sugar you eat, the more AGEs you develop; these damage surrounding proteins like collagen and elastin, which keep skin firm and elastic. Once damaged, springy and resilient collagen and elastin become dry and brittle, leading to wrinkles and sagging. These aging effects start at about age 35 and increase rapidly after that, according to a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology.
#10 Sugar Rots Your Teeth
Tooth decay is caused by acid-producing bacteria in your mouth that feast on carbohydrates, be it sugar from candy or starch from wholesome foods such as bread. Potato chips and raisins cling to your teeth, giving the bacteria something to savor.
Sugar doesn’t just come from candy. It’s in salad dressing, bread, ketchup, etc… So make sure you read the food labels carefully. Don’t let companies take advantage of your innate desire for sugar. Your brain craves it because it was a scarce resource for our ancestors. Master your health. Fuck mediocrity. Take Spartan Ownership!
