I have made the choice to live the life of a warrior-monk…
Clutter, distraction, the world is full of it. There is a war going on outside and it’s not what you think! It’s not a war on terrorism. It’s not a war on equality.
The war going on outside is for your attention…There is a war going on to see who can capture your mind and hold it. Corporations, political parties, groups & organizations of every kind you can imagine ALL after that precious gem…Your mind.
“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.” – Lao Tzu
However, it’s YOUR choice who will that war. You or them.
As a result of that reality, I have chosen to live my life like a modern “warrior-monk.” (However, I use those terms loosely in a sense because actually living like a warrior-monk does imply killing & living in a monastery if you were to base it off of the historical context.)
Basically, there are 2 components that describe what I mean when I imply that I live like a warrior-monk:
- Ruthless focus: I am extremely careful with the information and products I consume and only open my mind or body to things that advance me towards my goals. (Whether that’s books, videos, TV, food, etc.) This also includes people who are weak and are bad influences.
- I train my mind and body every single day: I spend hours each day working out, meditating, doing martial arts, reading, visualizing, doing breathing exercises, thinking strategically, doing yoga, qi-gong, etc. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t challenge myself or train to master myself.
Being ruthlessly focused makes me like a monk because when a man chooses to become a monk, it a symbol of his commitment to making enlightenment a priority by virtue of isolating himself.
Training my body and mind every single day makes me like a warrior because when I train I seek to develop and master myself in order to perform on the battlefield that is life.
So far, I’ve been amazing living like this because it feels great to live so intensely. I just quietly grind away each day and when the day is done, I feel complete.
